Accommodation - Kuta

Kuta Accommodation

Flora Beach Hotel - Kuta - Click for more picsFLORA BEACH HOTEL Jalan Bakung Sari Kuta, Bali INDONESIA
Tel: (0361) 751 870 Fax: (0361) 754 227
Located right in the heart of Kuta - close to shopping & entertainment spots, 5 minutes from the beach & 10 minutes from the airport.
150,000Rupiah (AUD$24) per night is the cheapest I could bargain these guys down to. It's ok, not flashy, a fair price considering you get the nice quiet pool, very friendly & helpful staff, yummy breakfast, and air conditioning, but you can find cheaper. I stayed here the first 4 nights as it was part of my package deal with escapeholidays. Their breakfast was yum, you could have an Indonesian breakfast (Nasi Goreng aka Fried Rice) or an American breakfast, Fruit Salad, Egg & Toast.

AQUARIUS STAR HOTEL- 116 Legian St, Kuta
Tel: (0361) 756 573 Fax: (0361) 751 762 Email: aquariushotel@yahoo.com
Also in the heart of Kuta, right smack in the middle of lower-Legian st shopping. Only a 10min walk to the beach, only a 1-3 min walk to the Aussie nightlife (Paddies, Tubes, Bounty, Apache).
This was my fave place to stay, for value for money. 75,000 Rupiah ($12) per night for a single room, including a ceiling fan, breakfast and hot water. They also had a large pool with it's own bar. They advertise that they have a gym but I forgot to check it out. Their food was the best in Bali, and sooo cheap. Breakfast is included and is the yummiest and you can choose all or some of following: banana pancakes drizzled with honey, fruit salad, scrambled egg, orange juice, coffee/tea, porridge, and toast, and I came back to this place and begged to stay again after I had travelled to different areas of the island. You may wish to pre-book these guys before you go as I was devastated when they couldn't fit me in the 2nd time and I had to stay 2 nights in a different hotel. If you don't stay here, make sure you plan to eat here at least once.. their Nasi Goreng is to die for, as is their Gado Gado and banana pancakes.

BERLIAN INN - Poppies Lane, Kuta
Tel: (0361) 751 501
A couple minutes walk from the beach, this one was a nice place to stay, it was 90,000R ($14) a night for a single room (with 2 separate beds or 1 x double-bed), hot water, and a ceiling fan. Istayed here 2 nights and then found the Aquarius, so moved in there instead. No pool here - not that you need one with the beach being so close. Their breakfast was nice; eggs on toast.

Fat Yogi - click for larger imageFAT YOGI Poppies Lane, Kuta - Found this budget (USD $4 per night) one on the internet: http://www.indo.com/hotels/fat_yogi/50% off if you book your room on the internet.. I walked past this place but had already found my "home" in the Aquarius so didn't take the opportunity to check it out, but it seemed ok from the outside, it's very close to the beach and very close to shopping, so if location is what you're after, then this one may be your answer.

Here are some others in Kuta that are supposed to be budget, but I didn't try any of them:
Adhi Dharma Hotel, Hotel Barong, Dewi Sri Cottages, Camplung Mas Hotel, and Melasti Bungalows.

Accommodation - Ubud

Pramesti BathroomPRAMESTI BUNGALOWS - Monkey Forest Rd, UbudPramesti - Outdoor Setting
I will stay at this place again if I go back, and will recommend anyone else to stay there too. Single rooms start at 80,000R (but I stayed for 60,000R). Includes a couple of beds (1 double, 1 single), hot water, ceiling fan, a beautiful outdoor setting with a garden view. The rooms were fresh and airy as the windows were large and made of flyscreen with bamboo rather than glass. They would come and clean your room every day. Breakfast was average, but still nice to have a change. Choice of tomato omelette or egg & tomato jaffle. They served fresh tea/coffee in a thermos at 6:30am each morning to your outdoor setting, so as soon as you woke up, you could have a hot, fresh cuppa. Sorry, I don't think they owned a telephone, but the locals will know where it is - it's down a very long alley next-door to the Kenso Reflexology place, just down the road on the opposite side of the Putra Reggae bar.

KUBU SAREN - Monkey Forest Rd, UbudKubu Saren - Upstairs
Tel: (0361) 975 704 Fax: (0361) 974 683
Located near the Monkey Forest, if you stay here, make sure you stay in the downstairs accommodation as their upstairs accommodation sucks (read my diary for more details). Rooms are 80,000R (AUD$13) including breakfast (yummy banana pancakes and fruit salad). Staff are friendly. Hot water and ceiling fan. All accommodation in Ubud is subject to bargaining as it's a lot quieter than it used to be and there are just sooooooo many cheap places to choose from. I stayed here for 60,000R (AUD$9) per night.

SWAN INN - Wisnu Lane (off Monkey-Forest Rd), Ubud
Tel: 62 361 977 492
Conveniently located near the Ubud Market. Quiet, peaceful, hot/cold shower. Very cheap, I think rooms with hot water/fan/breakfast start at 50,000R (AUD$8). I didn't stay here, but a guy named Blondy who works there, gave me the tour, and it looks pretty nice. It has a cute little outdoor setting where they serve your breakfast. I was already happy with my current accommodation so didn't switch.
